Job Description:
Duties: As part of the Instrument Research Group, work within
fast-moving research team creating the in-the-lab prototype equipment. Guide
and shape development of new products by integrating knowledge of
chemistry and hardware development in the areas of proteomics, drug discovery
and development, and clinical research. Support research and
development activities and applications testing of novel supercritical (SFC)
and gas chromatographic (GC) instrumentation, including demonstrating a
fundamental understanding of these chromatographic techniques as well as
their interface with a detector. Utilize research experience in
handling and testing prototype scientific instrumentation. Utilize hands-on
experience to modify and evaluate separation systems. Utilize experience
in developing and using complex separation methods. Independently
initiate, direct, and execute scientific research and/or development
strategies. Setup research plans, conduct the necessary experimental work,
report and publish results, which may lead to the completion of new
products. Make detailed observations, independently analyze data, and interpret
results. Design and conduct well-controlled experiments. Devise protocols
for routine use. Advise supervisor on needed materials and
equipment. Suggest protocol improvements. Interpret and summarize scientific
results in a clear, concise, and accurate manner. Efficiently evaluate,
prioritize, and handle multiple and changing priorities and projects. Work under
pressure with strict attention to deadlines and details. Requirements: Master's degree in Chemistry or related field
(willing to accept foreign education equivalent) as well as four years' of
pre- or post- degree experience in the job offered or related field of
industrial work experience or, alternatively, a Ph.D degree and 0 years of
experience as noted above. Experience must include: Strong background in
designing, assembling and testing novel analytical instrumentation with
special focus on SFC, GC and solvating GC, including detection using both
flame ionization (FID) and mass spectrometry (MS); Demonstrated
expertise with tandem mass spectrometry instrumentation (e.g. quadrupole
time-of-flight mass spectrometry, QTOF/MS); Thorough knowledge working with
different analytical instrumentation (high performance liquid
chromatography) and detectors (ELSD, UV, TCD, FPD and RID); Demonstrated expertise
programming in assembly language and LabView; and Strong background in
machining to make rapid prototype instrumentation components. Must be able
and willing to travel domestically to scientific conferences and customer
