Job Description:
Duties: The research goals in the Waters Pharmaceutical Business
Operations (PBO) group are to support the Waters Field Organization through
generation of key scientific collateral that supports current and future
research needs and challenges in the biopharmaceutical space. Responsible
for providing expert scientific contribution which impacts PBO
projects having a breadth of impact across PBO and external to Waters within
discipline. In the role, the successful candidate will generate
chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods using new analytical technologies for
the characterization and routine analysis of biopharmaceuticals.
Identify, champion and develop new scientific ideas to present to PBO
management. Advise Senior Management on new science and technology within
their discipline. Provide strategic advice to PBO management on new
scientific programs and opportunities and to advise on existing
research/development activities. Develop understanding of customers’ science
objectives through customer collaborations, maintaining an awareness of competitor
activities to support short and long term PBO business objectives
targeting appropriate market segments with Company solutions. Provide
disciplinary scientific leadership to present work through patents centered
on the development of new technologies and workflows, peer reviewed
publications in high impact journals and lectures. When appropriate, patent
and/or publish papers and reviews in internationally recognised
journals. Produce suitable material for technical marketing literature to enable
the development of marketing initiatives in support of Field
Marketing and Sales activity. Work collaboratively across organization with
Product Management and R&D on current and new products and solutions
that will better meet customer business objectives (may entail
identifying partnerships and acquisition opportunities to support the
group’s strategy). Drive collaboration and knowledge sharing through
the development of cross-functional scientific networks in areas
that are critical to the business. Work collaboratively in a
highly-matrixed organization with other professionals throughout the
organization to ensure transfer of best practices and overall science development.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Requirements: Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Science or
related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) as well
as 3 years of experience in the job offered and demonstrated experience
in glycoprotein and glycan characterization, including both LC and
MS technical approaches, OR, in the alternative, a Ph.D in
Chemistry, Biology, Science or related field focused on glycoprotein and glycan characterization and 0 years of experience. Also requires
Demonstrated expertise (DE) applying GU values in glycan analytical workflows
in a biopharmaceutical industry; DE in a biopharmaceutical
characterization in preclinical and development spaces; DE with Empower CDS and
Empower CDS enterprise system administration; DE identifying and
interpreting complex carbohydrate structure and its potential impact on
biotherapeutic mode of action; DE with multiple modes of chromatography as it relates
to glycan analysis (RP, HILIC, IEX, 2D applications); DE in chromatography
and use of various HPLC/UPLC systems, fraction collection technologies, and
detectors; DE in both written and oral communication at both national
and international conferences in the field of glycan analysis and
