Schedule: Pain Clinic. Full-time 40 hours; Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

The Pain Clinic Secretary provides indirect care to Pain Clinic patients to ensure efficient patient flow and quality patient care. Under the supervision of the Nursing Director or designee, the Secretary performs various administrative and indirect patient care duties which facilitate each patient's readiness for their Pain Clinic visit/procedure and an optimal unit patient flow. The Pain Clinic Secretary will work collaboratively with the team to assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice. Expectations of the individual in this position will be to demonstrate professionalism; excellent organizational, time management, customer service and communication skills; the ability to be self-directed; work well in a group and focus on patient-centered quality care.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs assigned administrative and indirect patient care duties to ensure efficient operation of the Pain Clinic.
  • Schedules patients in a manner that optimizes an efficient flow in the Pain Clinic.
  • Triages phone calls in a pleasant and courteous manner, collaborating with professional personnel when appropriate, accurately relaying messages to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in facilitating patient flow in Pain Clinic by appropriately notifying RN staff of patient arrivals, cancellations, etc.
  • Requests medical records in advance as per protocol, updates medical record requests when add-ons occur on the Pain Clinic schedule, notifies Medical Records Department of missing charts and chart contents.
  • Assists patient with changing into appropriate hospital attire and back to street clothes as indicated, ensuring safety measures are taken to prevent falls.
  • This role is based in the PMC but may be asked to cover similar duties in other Ambulatory and Procedural areas as needed. Grade: 140

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree preferred
    • 1-2 years of previous lerical experience preferred
    • Exemplifies CARE standards.
    • Demonstrated history of excellent customer service skills.
    • Demonstrated history of excellent teamwork and proactive work.
    • Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
    • Ability to speak, read and write English
