The Assistant Director, Donor Relations (Reporting) plays a key
role in highlighting groundbreaking research, innovative patient
care, and exceptional education for the next generation of medical
leaders at Brigham and Women's Hospital through compelling
narratives that update the Hospital's most generous donors on the
impact of their philanthropy.
The Assistant Director demonstrates mastery in gathering and
representing content for discrete reporting formats, including
paper and PDF, video, web, and live presentation formats, as well
as proficiency in science writing and translating complicated ideas
into accessible prose. Through program design, day-to-day
management, and execution, the Assistant Director implements the
latest stewardship reporting strategies to ensure an impactful,
unique, engaging donor experience. The position reports to the
Director of Donor Relations (Reporting).

Qualifications
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a portfolio of complex narrative reports and extensive
knowledge of the donors in their portfolio and all relevant
reporting schedules and stewardship files.
- Manage the annual financial endowment reporting program,
working with colleagues in finance, information services, and other
partners to ensure timely report preparation, coordination with
narrative reports, and tracking relevant reporting schedules.
- As needed, interview physicians, researchers, and other
healthcare professionals to gain insight on specific
accomplishments (both incremental and significant), new clinical
applications, leveraged funding opportunities, and other areas of
interest to donors.
- As needed, conduct independent research on scientific papers
and submissions, clinical trials, laboratory, and lecture content
related to donor-supported initiatives.
- Plan and write annual narrative reports that convey the impact
of philanthropic support on the Hospital's mission, as well as
details on specific initiatives funded by donors. Collaborate with
gift officers to optimize content, tone, and approach for each
donor. In addition to reporting across various beat areas, lead
reporting for donor-endowed positions (including Distinguished
Chairs, Professors, and Fellowships).
- Following the reporting Guiding Principles, recommend
appropriate media and formats to demonstrate impact based on the
purpose, donor, gift, and presentation opportunities; adapt reports
to a wide range of media including web, video, written, and
digital; and discuss appropriate distribution plans for varying
audiences. As needed, this role may serve as videographer and
editor for report-related video elements. When more complex
planning or editing is required, collaborates with the Director and
Development Communications colleagues to ensure high quality videos
can be produced within desired timelines.
- Produce reports efficiently to meet specific target dates.
- Collaborate with Development Communications team to assist and
lead projects such as report design, infographics, and other joint
efforts.
- In collaboration with the Director and other reporting team
members, this individual will evolve and execute standards related
to Guiding Principles and reporting templates that ensure
consistent and efficient stewardship reporting across gift type.
- Assist with implementing processes for collecting donor
feedback on reporting program. Help identify and implement
improvements to the programs as a result of donor feedback.
- In coordination with Information Systems (IS), enter narrative
report-related data into the Atlas (CRM) database and use the
system to assist in keeping major gift officers aware of delivery
dates and report status as well as donor feedback.
- Work with Donor Relations Coordinator to ensure finalizing and
delivery of reports and uploading of final reports to Atlas and
SharePoint.
- Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of writing or editing experience required.
- Experience with project management and program development
required.
- Ability to interact with front-line staff as well as senior
leaders in the development office and across the hospital.
- Experience with healthcare preferred.
- Consistent record to achieve under deadline pressure and deal
with confidential information with discretion.
- Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office suite of products, as
well as the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new digital
platforms and programs. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Outstanding written and interpersonal skills with a proven
ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
