Job Description:

Working under the direction of the Manager or Senior Team Lead, will be responsible for designing, developing and testing the user interface of sophisticated software; conducting user-centered research and design activities related to MathWorks products and web applications; collecting and documenting user requirements, facilitating user interface design, advocating for the user throughout the development process, and testing and evaluating user interfaces; contributing throughout the product development life cycle; developing new products and features, and enhancing legacy products; working with development teams to understand their projects user-centered design requirements, and developing creative solutions for meeting those needs; working with the development team to follow a user-centered design approach and working collaboratively to brainstorm and design innovative solutions to complex problems; making recommendations about which usability methods to use to answer questions about users and design directions based on projects needs, goals and constraints; working closely with team members to conduct user research, identify pain points, develop user profiles and create task lists; collaborating on paper and functional prototypes; contributing to requirements and design documents; running usability tests, conducting interviews and site visits, organizing surveys, and performing usability assessments; and helping teams interpret and understand user feedback, and providing input for design decisions based on that feedback.

Education and Experience:

Masters degree or higher (or foreign education equivalent) in Human Factors, Human Factors in Information Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information, Engineering or Computer Science and no experience.


Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Human Factors, Human Factors in Information Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information, Engineering or Computer Science and five (5) years of experience in job offered or five (5) years of experience in user-centered research and design.

Special Requirements:

Demonstrated expertise using qualitative and quantitative research methods to analyze user behavior, identify user pains, lead design sprints, benchmark digital products in industry and evaluate digital product features to impact strategy and product direction.

Demonstrated expertise performing usability assessments, including performing usability testing, conducting heuristic evaluations and customer interviews, and designing surveys to understand user behavior and influence design decisions.

Demonstrated expertise interpreting and analyzing user feedback using UX method of affinization, evolving user workflows, and providing design recommendations to software developers; performing high and low fidelity prototyping to inform design decisions that address user requirements using Axure or Adobe XD according to UI design principles; and developing UX deliverables including personas, journey maps, user roles and goals to enable a user-centered development process.

Demonstrated expertise participating in the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, functional design, prototype design, and testing.
