5 Week Summer Program Academic Instructors Urgently Needed

Job Description:

The mission of the Immigrant Family Services Institute is to provide targeted academic support and enrichment services, using a holistic approach that addresses the unique challenges of immigrant children as a way to maximize their full potential in school and beyond.IFSI runs the PLUS+ Summer Learning Academy for 4-5 weeks each summer for children in prek-8th grade. The mornings are spent developing academic skills and the afternoons are devoted to enrichment activities including musical instrument instruction, choral activities, physical fitness and art.The IFSI summer program will operate at 3 different schools this Summer, The Margarita Muniz School in Boston and the Baker School in Brockton for five days per week (M-F), over 4 - 5 weeks with daily teaching duties from 9:00am -12:00pm for students in grades 1-5.There will be one hour of paid prep each teaching day and up to 10 hours of paid orientation, training and curriculum development before the program begins. Teachers must commit to all of the following weeks but may be hired for multiple weeks depending on teacher availability and program enrollment.

  • Academic teacher or paraprofessional with at least 1 year of experience
  • Previous experience or instruction in youth education and/or programming
  • Demonstrated positive classroom management skills
  • Must have the ability to work with and regard to confidential information at times
  • Ability to manage interpersonal relationships with key stakeholders and community members
  • Interest in cultural exchange and empowerment
  • Strong organizational skills ability to track deadlines, manage priorities and key details
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to write progress reports
  • Customer and community service focused
  • Authorized to work in the United States
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Summer Academic Teachers provide students with rigorous instruction that demonstrates the state core competencies for effective teaching listed below. It is important that teachers in the Children's PLUS+ programs:
    • Prepare cognitively demanding lessons, assignments and enrichment activities
    • (requires some planning work outside of regular program hours)
    • Conduct pre and post evaluations at the start and conclusion of the Summer program
    • Design and implement integrated hands-on learning activities that empower rising 1-5 graders to explore careers and try something new every day.
    • Differentiate a range of effective instructional practices to meet the student's needs
    • Establish a productive learning environment and classroom culture in which all students are respected.
    • Work with the site coordinator to maintain timely student attendance, participation and progress records.
    • Work with site coordinator and other program staff to ensure all outcome goals are on track to be met, including academic outcomes and social-emotional skill development outcomes.
    • Oversee classroom management; enforce discipline code.
    • Care for program materials and resources.
    • Communicate with families and provide all stakeholders relevant data as pertained and requested by the site coordinator
    • Perform other related duties as requested
    • Serve as a positive role model
      Job Type: Part-time (20-25 Hours)Pay: $20.00 - $50.00 per hour
