Overview of Program: During April vacation week ( Week of April 18-April 21) selected BPS schools will have the opportunity to host Acceleration Academies for SY 2022-2023! The April Acceleration Academy will be focused on Math standards.The district-funded academies will allow students to participate in critical learning time based on targeted standards. The academic team has developed a schedule to allow for project based learning activities with embedded time for intensive specialized instruction based on each school's performance data. The Academics department is allocating funds to support Acceleration Academies to increase learning time and access to high-quality learning over the school vacation. The April Acceleration Academy will run for 4 days from April 18-21, 2023. The Academies are designed to accelerate student learning in small academically rich settings by leveraging engaging, standards-aligned lessons. Lessons build toward a project/problem-based performative task which provides students an opportunity to integrate their learning, strengthen academic skills and engage with complex text.
Overview of Acceleration Teacher: Plan, deliver and evaluate theme-based lessons focused on content specific standards. The Teacher will work in small groups of a 15 to 1 student-teacher ratio to deliver lessons.
Training and Planning

  • Participate in 5-6-hours of professional learning including a district planned training and several school-specific team meetings
  • Work with site coordinator, enrichment teachers, and other academic teachers to thoughtfully integrate academics and enrichment to address the program's essential questions
  • Prepare classroom and instructional materials prior to Acceleration Academy start date so academic structures and routines begin on time on the first day
  • Play a significant role in family outreach and communication; including making phone calls, sending letters and incentivizing students in order to recruit and maintain high attendance rates
  • Participate in attendance taking training sessions for accuracy of Acceleration Academy dataInstruction
    • Deliver in-person instruction to students, designed to accelerate student learning in small academically rich settings by leveraging engaging, standards-aligned lessons;
    • Deliver lessons that build toward a project/problem-based performative task which provides students an opportunity to integrate their learning, strengthen academic skills and engage with complex text and tasks;
    • Collect evaluative student work and projects and record student performance as guided.
      Collaboration and Evaluation
      • Work with the site coordinator and enrichment teachers to gather student-level data and submit student projects, progress notes or any required assessments
      • Submit end of program deliverables
      • Participate in feedback/debrief activities including filling out an end of program surveyArrival, Dismissal, Cafeteria Duties
        • Assist Site Coordinator with program and logistical duties such as arrival, dismissal and cafeteria dutyScheduleThe Acceleration Academy day will run for 5-6 hours. Teachers are required to be available for office hours with students as needed and as directed by the site coordinator and school leader. Program start and end times vary by school.
          Qualifications:
          • Highly qualified teacher; Relevant DESE certification
          • At least three years of professional teaching experience
          • Experience teaching Students with Disabilities
          • Experience teaching students who are English Learners
          • Experience with developing & implementing project-based curriculum
          • Experience with engaging students in complex tasks and texts
          • Current authorization to work in the United States
          • Dedication and commitment to Expanded Learning Opportunities and making the Acceleration Academies a highly effective and meaningful experience for students.QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:
            • ESL certified
            • Special Education certified
            • Familiarity with the Boston Public SchoolsCOMPENSATION: $3250 stipend
