Packaging Sr. Principal Development Engineer Job Locations US-MA-Burlington Job ID 2020-28311 Function Engineering/Technology Job Overview This Packaging Sr. Principal Development Engineer in the R&D team will focus on KDP coffee business and is responsible for packaging projects for primary packs, which includes the identification of suppliers, selection of materials, determination of performance requirements, setting quality standards, creating packaging specifications and coordinating all activities with a range of business partners. This role will focus on game-changing new & existing material technology & packaging formats to deliver against KDP corporate Sustainability packaging goals. This role requires a combination of deep technical and business knowledge, project management and cross-functional team operation. RESPONSIBILITIES :
                • The Sr. Principal Developer in this role will be responsible for independently leading packaging research, development and commercialization of new materials and packaging systems to deliver against mid- and long-term objectives to support Packaging Sustainability.
                • Closely work with incumbent and new vendors in the identification and evaluation of novel materials and packaging formats.
                • Gain alignment across key functions and model research and development best practices.
                • Manage technical timelines, provide timely communication, raise issues and risks and develop plan to leveraging strong project management skills and pkg development skills.
                • Coordinate and direct functional testing including lab testing, plant trials and packaging material qualifications.
                • In-depth understanding of material performance and lab qualification and validation.
                • Leads the development of success criteria against a pkg qualification plan.
                • Deep understanding of a standard packaging development life cycle for materials and structures
                • Ability to identify business needs and generate ideas and concepts, develop the business case from a packaging standpoint.
                  • Drive new packaging development process, perform technical feasibility studies from ideation to initial commercialization
                  • Follow technical stage gate process, create package development plan & timeline and manage project budget
                    • Develop cooperative working relationships with cross-functional teams, the manufacturing plants as well as external packaging material vendors.
                    • Understand the financial impact of packaging programs and the linkage of packaging to business strategies.
                    • Ensure progress on our critical programs as they are vital to ensure we deliver against our commitments #CB
                      #IND1 Requirements
                      • Past R&D experience in the development and scaleup of new packaging & material innovation is required.--
                      • Bachelor's Degree in a materials-based program required; Bachelor's Degree in Packaging or similar technical degree preferred.
                        • 15 + years' experience in package development for new packaging launches within a F&B CGP industry(preferred), coordination and completion of qualification programs.
                          • Experience in resins, fibers, flexibles, rigid thermoformed, ISBM, compression molded packages as well as consumer structure innovation and characterization. Experience with materials/converting methods with both corrugated and plastic containers.
                          • Experience in new package/product launches
