Role Summary

Magna New Mobility is seeking a highly motivated Senior Planning & Controls Engineer to join the Autonomous Mobile Robotics Development group in Boston, Massachusetts. Must be a passionate and hands-on engineer, designing and developing both motion planning and kinematic motion control algorithms. Must be comfortable working with minimal supervision to meet defined program objectives and milestones in an environment where you are given the freedom to innovate, explore new methods and solutions. Magna New Mobility offers an agile engineering and development community; one in which a candidate will be expected to bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate system objectives and identify relevant use cases to generate meaningful requirements specifications.
  • Develop planning and control algorithms such as routing, behavior planning, trajectory planning, feedback controllers, etc.
  • Develop state-of-the-art algorithms for planning under uncertainty using stochastic optimization techniques with linear and non-linear objective functions
  • Develop behavioral reasoning framework to support navigation in complex scenarios
  • Develop functionally safe systems that fail gracefully and safely when difficult situations arise
  • Implement real-time algorithms on CPU/GPU in C++
  • Build tools and infrastructure to verify and evaluate the performance of the planner/controller over time
  • Develop and own requirements for Controls components/modules
  • Document work clearly.
  • Maintain software version control during all stages of software development.
  • Perform other duties, support special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Must work in an organized and orderly fashion, following modelling guidelines and/or industry best practices; be responsible for own work area, maintenance of tool-chain and equipment.

    Key Qualifications/Requirements
    --- 5+ years in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other relevant industry
    --- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects; good time management and organizational skills to meet stringent deadlines.
    --- Develop path planning and control algorithms such as collision-free trajectory generation and dynamic management, map-based routing, lane keeping, managing jerk and lateral acceleration, etc.
    --- Develop algorithms for path planning under uncertainty and for both static and dynamic obstacles
    --- Develop functionally safe systems that obey the rules of the road and meet feature requirements
    --- Build tools and infrastructure to verify and evaluate the performance of the planner/controller over time
    --- Implement real-time algorithms in C++ for a resource-constrained vehicle and test, both in simulator and on-vehicle
    --- Deliver to schedule in a production setting
    --- Experience of vehicle simulation and analysis.
    --- Issue/project management - JIRA, Agile, Scrum
    --- Configuration Management / Repository - software release management, including data/parameter dictionary,
    --- Highly proficient with MS Office based productivity tools incl. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.
