Process and Operations Section of the Materials and Process
Engineering Department is seeking an individual with technical
expertise in Plating Processes, Surface Finishing, Corrosion
Mitigation, Coating Application and Painting Processes to support
all phases of product design and production for military and
defense applications. The applicant should have a solid
understanding in design for manufacturability, process selection
and optimization, assessing RTX supplier capability, failure
analysis and report writing, and be able to review and develop
plating procedures for different base materials, inspection
processes/criteria, training of operators and inspectors, and
assess suppliers manufacturing processes. A qualified candidate
should have technical knowledge and experience developing, working
with, and approving detailed plating process instructions,
application of coatings, surface finishing and plating processes
for in-house (make) capabilities as well as at supply (buy)
partners. This position will require frequent travel to locations
within the US and occasionally international locations. The Senior
Plating Process Engineer job is in Andover, MA and the position is
onsite.Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a
minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a
degree, 9+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related
field may be substituted for additional years of experience
- Experience in Military and Commercial Plating, Painting, or
Surface Finishing Specifications
- Experience in US and European (ISO) Painting and Plating
Specifications, and Test Methods
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security
clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is
required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security
clearance. Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience in plating, surface finishing, and painting
procedure development and testing of coatings, operator/inspector
training, problem solving and root cause analysis, and auditing of
manufacturing processes.
- Experience in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T,
plating/paint specifications and other technical materials and then
translating into practical and simplified procedural
instructions.
- Experience as a technical liaison between engineering,
manufacturing and quality organizations
- Basic understanding of metallurgy, galvanic corrosion,
protective corrosion coatings.
- Must be self-motivated and possess good communication
skills.
- Desire and ability to work as a team member is essential.
- Must be adaptable and willing to work in all project phases
from design concepts through manufacturing.
- Practical knowledge of metal processing operations and surface
treatments.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to
identify root cause and implement appropriate
corrective/preventative actions in a manufacturing
environment.
- Experienced in developing finishing processes for aluminum,
structural carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, and nickel
alloys.
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical
techniques.
- Experienced in auditing coating processes and working with
suppliers.

our products.The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000
USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate
representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several
