Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer (SVP), the Vice President, Strategic Sourcing and Corporate Services is a critical and highly-visible leadership role that will help to drive, build, and elevate the performance of this function. The Vice President will be responsible for overseeing all strategic sourcing activities including category management, sourcing strategies, supplier segmentation, RFP-supplier selection, negotiation planning and execution, contract execution, supplier performance and relationship management, risk management, as well as all associated tools, processes, and policies. In addition, the Vice President will be responsible for managing Corporate Services which consist of Vertexs Global Travel Program, Global Meetings and Events Program, and Global Spend Transparency Program and their associated teams, tools, processes, and policies. The role/function has significant responsibility within the SVPs Organization providing governance and overseeing consistent execution of the teams responsibilities. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Leads the strategic sourcing and corporate services function by establishing a vision, supported by a clear plan and measures of success, to raise the performance of the team and the overall value-add to the Company. Able to motivate and instill a strong collaborative approach with business partners to consistently achieve goals, while ensuring Company adherence to applicable policies and regulatory requirements. Viewed by the CFO leadership team as an enterprise-level critical thinker, combining analytical ability and judgment to provide insight and drive decision-making. The individual will be:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The individual will:

* Act as the senior leader supporting our 3rd party supplier network, defining a clear vision for the function and offering valuable strategic analysis and insights. * Lead the Companys global strategic sourcing activities across all spend categories except for clinical outsourcing; managing approximately $1B spend. * Continually build and streamline a robust, highly qualified supply base able to meet the Companys current and future business needs; leverage strategic supplier relationships to enable a competitive advantage to Vertex. * Be viewed as a trusted partner working closely across all functions and regions to understand business needs and challenges; align team goals accordingly. * Ensure all spend transparency reports across all applicable jurisdictions are prepared, reviewed with the business, and submitted on-time. * Manage our global travel program and meetings/events program, including oversight of our global travel agency, global meeting and events partners, preferred travel providers, and associated policies and processes. * Develop a superior, high-performing team that meets increasing needs and requirements across the business and helps drive the overall organization forward. * In collaboration with the business, define annual cost savings targets; monitor and drive execution. * Oversee and expand the Companys Small Business Administration / Supplier Diversity program, including sustainability initiatives and reporting. * In collaboration with internal business stakeholders and finance, support the business budget-setting process by defining annual cost savings targets and commitments; track and monitor on-going execution. * Drive the adoption of common processes, tools, and standards across the company that drive efficiency and effectiveness, in partnership with internal stakeholders. * Establish best practices for the strategic sourcing and corporate services function, including developing metrics and Dashboards to identify trends and measure team performance and value-add. * Develop annual budgets, including headcount needs, and manage accordingly; contribute to long-range planning to ensure the function can effectively scale to meet future needs.


* A minimum of 15 years of progressive, relevant direct and indirect strategic sourcing professional experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership positions, including the management of large teams that are geographically dispersed. * Knowledge of Corporate Services areas including management oversight of global travel and meetings/events programs; prior experience in Spend Transparency regulations and global requirements desired. * Bachelors degree; advanced degree (MBA or Science-based Masters) as well as industry-recognized professional supply chain certification preferred; multinational industry experience desired. * Strong business acumen and judgment; strategic mindset and creative problem-solving capability. * Deft negotiation skills for supporting strategic supplier engagements. * Exceptional presentation skills, ability to influence senior leaders on recommendations based on compelling data, supplier market insights that address business needs. * Understanding of the drug discovery process, including GxP requirements, as well as a deep knowledge of the supplier marketplace supporting the biotech/pharmaceutical industry; experience supporting gene/cell therapy disease areas desired. * Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing processes and related tools including eSourcing, Spend Analytics, Third Party Risk Management, Contract Lifecycle Management, as well as Concur Travel / Expense, Alanda Spend Transparency (or similar tool), and Cvent supporting Corporate Services. * Possess the confidence, executive presence, and political savvy to gain the respect and credibility across senior leaders. * Demonstrated program management excellence, including budgeting, initiative prioritization, milestone management, and stakeholder communication. * Operate with utmost integrity and exercise appropriate discretion with highly confidential matters. * Business Process Excellence, Lean, and/or Six-Sigma experience a significant plus.
