Position Summary: LEE is seeking a Director of Program and Organizing (DPO) in the Massachusetts region. This Director takes the lead on local community organizing efforts, strategy, and coaching. This Director should bring the skills and enthusiasm to recruit and coach a group of organizers through LEE?s organizing cycle framework, and grow the overall base of LEE members participating in the LEE-supported collective action network. LEE is looking for a strategic leader with strong relationship building skills, a history of leading teams to success, an understanding of the political and education policy landscape of the Massachusetts region, which includes membership in Massachusetts, the skills to support a LEE member led community organizing effort in the region, and the ability to inspire and recruit members to participate in broad organizing efforts. As LEE?s digital engagement initiatives grow, this Director will be tasked with supporting members? journeys through blended learning - digital and in-person engagement and action. The Director plays an important role in the region with the primary focus being developing strong relationships with and among LEE members and leading those members through the stages of the organizing cycle to drive meaningful impact for kids.This position is on the Regional Impact (RI) team at LEE. The RI team is composed of field staff all over the country responsible for the development and coaching of members across multiple pathways - including policy, advocacy, community organizing and elected leadership. The Director, Program and Organizing reports to the Director, Impact in the region. In addition to the successful execution of community organizing efforts as described above, the Director is also responsible for leading member outreach, coaching and programs for other initiatives, as assigned by the Director, Impact in the region. Position Location:--Massachusetts Travel Requirements:--10% minimum outside the region (for team events and national programming; this could increase at times based on interest/onboarding needs); frequent travel throughout the region.NOTE: All travel is pending due to current restrictions on in-person engagement due to COVID-19. Responsibilities: Lead LEE?s organizing (collective action) work in the region (75%):-- Continue developing existing collective action work in region by coaching and training members through LEE?s organizing cycle (i.e. listening, research, public action, and evaluation) Recruit and support a broad base of members and community leaders in the regional organizing network, known as Organizing Alliances (OA), that lead and support collective action campaigns Identify, train, and develop select members through one-on-one coaching and group trainings to maintain and grow a strong leadership pipeline within the Organizing Alliance Using knowledge of landscape and campaign best practices, advise and train Organizing Alliance teams to develop and execute effective campaign strategies Plan and execute effective actions toward progressively greater collective action wins (i.e. policy, practices, leadership changes) with meaningful impact for kids Successfully execute regional organizing events and actions (i.e. house meetings, issues assemblies, contact your legislator actions, canvassing and phone banking campaigns, etc.) Strategically set and align vision for Organizing Alliance?s work and LEE?s collective action goals while supporting broader regional vision and goals for leadership development and engagement along all of LEE?s pathways (i.e. elected, policy and advocacy, organizing) Accurately track and input data to ensure progress towards ambitious goals and objectives Train members on effective digital engagement and actions (i.e. virtual house meetings and assemblies, listening surveys) using existing digital tools (i.e. Google docs, Zoom Video Conferencing, social media platforms, Squarespace, Mailchimp, Murmuration CRM database) Additional regional responsibilities, as determined with Director of Impact (25%): Support cultivation of LEE membership in region through meetings, connecting members with online and in-person resources, and coaching to promote civic engagement Support regional vision to inspire and agitate members into elected leadership Support event execution across all programs in region, including the design and facilitation of regional programming Collaborate with LEE National Impact teams to develop and deliver quality trainings Additional special projects and supports to ensure regional success of programming and member cultivation Minimum Qualifications: 5+ years professional experience 2+ years organizing experience, either as a volunteer or professional organizer Deep alignment with LEE?s mission Highly effective communication, facilitation, coaching and relationship building skills Experience applying a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion Ability to accurately track metrics and progress to goals efficiently and effectively Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends Access to reliable transportation. Position requires travel to meetings with members on a regular basis.-- Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency with a relational model of community organizing (i.e. listening, research, public action, and evaluation) Experience working with LEE members Sophisticated knowledge of political and education landscape in the region Benefits and Pay Pay for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience.
