OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
The new Executive Director joins the organization at a very
important time. We are in the midst of growth and expansion in our
programming and audience. We are facing the challenge of rebuilding
more equitable and anti-racist systems. Unfortunately, the dual
pandemics we are currently facing, COVID-19 and racism, have had a
disproportionate effect on the communities we serve. City Mission
needs a strong leader to take up this mantle and guide us
dynamically through these challenging times. Together, the
Executive Director and the board will evaluate and adjust the
business model as they grow the organization. This necessitates
generating resources to meet the needs of the present without
compromising the future. Continuing to build financial resources
for City Mission is paramount. The next Executive Director will
need to play an active role in fundraising, build the development
infrastructure and culture, as well as help the Board continue its
strategic recruitment of new Board members, assuring that the
Directors have a keen understanding of their fundraising
responsibilities. Responsibilities:
Reporting to the board, the Executive Director is the executive and
spiritual leader of City Mission, and serves as an ex-officio
member of the board of directors while advancing best practices in
governance and policymaking. Strategic Leadership
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership assuring that
the organization has a long-range strategy and sustainable business
model to achieve its mission. Building on City Mission's positive
reputation, they will work with the board and management team to
identify and set priorities, areas for improvement, and
opportunities for institutional growth and increased impact. Goal
Oriented and Results Driven
The Executive Director ensures an outcome measurement system is
implemented for each program and contributes toward organizational
level goals and strategy. In addition, they will analyze program
revenue lines for relative mission and financial impact on the
organization.-- Community and Congregational Engagement
The Executive Director will proactively engage in relationships
with the community and congregations across the city, building
partnerships and collaborative efforts to leverage program impact
and meet mission. Staff Leadership
The Executive Director maintains a positive morale, fostering
trust, and ensuring competency through evaluation. They preserve a
climate that attracts, retains, values, and motivates a diverse
staff. Resource Development, Marketing, and Finance
The Executive Director works with the staff, Finance Committee, and
board to prepare and monitor the annual budget, and ensure the
development and maintenance of sound financial practices and
systems. The Executive Director ensures accurate and complete
reporting to the board and to government agencies and other funders
that meets statutory, regulatory, and proposal requirements. The
Executive Director oversees the development and implementation of
the annual resource development plan. They also work with marketing
staff to develop and implement an annual marketing/communications
plan tied to the strategic focus of City Mission, and oversee the
building and maintenance of technology and communication
infrastructure.--
QUALIFICATIONS
The Board of Directors is seeking a highly motivated person of
integrity who is able to build trust and promote and support
leadership in others; an effective communicator who values
transparency and who inspires others to work collaboratively toward
our mission: to educate and empower individuals and communities to
expose systemic barriers and act together to advance economic and
racial equity for underserved families. The ideal candidate will
possess the following professional and personal qualities:
Required: Five+ years of management experience in a senior
leadership position. Three+ years of experience in social, racial,
and/or economic justice in an urban community. Bachelor's Degree;
Master's Degree preferred. Consideration may be given for
equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. Proven ability to relate
to diverse constituencies and stakeholders and build effective,
collaborative partnerships to achieve greater impact. Ability to
develop adaptive, engaging strategies to meet evolving community
needs within our mission, vision, and values. Strong experience
developing and growing multiple fundraising revenue streams.
including corporate and foundation funders, individual donors,
government contracts, and congregations. Successful experience
advocating effectively across multiple audiences and arenas.
Experience as an organizational spokesperson; effective public
speaker and oral storyteller. Able to speak in front of and
navigate a congregational setting. Proven ability to foster a
thriving, equitable, diverse, collaborative team environment. Adept
at managing and delivering on multiple work streams and comfortable
transitioning quickly across multiple roles. Sound fiscal
management including budgeting, expense management, and key
financial metrics required to operate a nonprofit Facility with
technology, including Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite, Google docs;
Quickbooks, and fundraising software (eTapestry/Blackbaud) a plus.
Preferred: In-depth knowledge of homelessness, affordable housing,
and related issues and causes. Experience raising the visibility of
an organization, including and beyond standard marketing and public
relations. Experience building relationships with city leaders,
corporate and foundation funders, and institutions of greater
Boston. Nonprofit board development, governance, and leadership
expertise. Clear and effective written and oral communication
Bilingual in English and Spanish. Compensation
