Job Description - Program Manager (346) (3191172) Job Description Description About the DepartmentThe MGH Clinical and Translational Epidemiology Unit (CTEU) is a research unit within the Department of Medicine (DOM) and Mongan Institute. The mission of the CTEU is to advance epidemiologic investigation for the translation of discoveries into effective clinical interventions. At its core, the CTEU and DOM are seeking to expand their support of clinical and translational researchers to optimize cutting edge study methods to discover and characterize determinants of human health, develop novel preventive and therapeutic interventions, and elucidate molecular biomarkers for the development of precision medicine strategies. -The Program Manager will directly report to the CTEU Director of Biobanking under the Unit Chief of the CTEU in their capacities as Principal Investigators. The candidate will have a broad portfolio of responsibilities. Working with the Director of Biobanking and the Unit Chief and key stakeholders in the DOM, the candidate will help with activities related to the expansion of DOM investigator-initiated translational biospecimen collection and processing, including the structure and organizational design and development and strategic planning of this DOM wide initiative. Under the general direction of the Unit Chief and Unit faculty, the incumbent will also assist with compiling, copyediting, writing, proofreading, and formatting health, medical, and scientific content for grant requests, progress reports, scientific manuscripts, and visual presentations intended to support the clinical and research goals of this new Core service. This position requires a broad base of skills in project management, laboratory management, copy writing and editing as well as multi-media content production. The ideal candidate will work fairly independently, receiving minimal supervision.Research and educational responsibilitiesWorks with the Director of Biobanking and Unit Chief in strategic planning and program development for this DOM initiativeDevelop the blueprint for the core competencies and support to be offered to DOM investigators for this core supportConsult with faculty members to provide intellectual support relevant to offered services, administrative requirements (e.g. IRB/Biosafety protocols), and audits.Assist in the preparation and formatting of grant proposals relevant to growth of the core serviceAssist with the compilation, review, and management of information pertaining to descriptions of facilities and resources available to investigators, research progress reports, biographical sketches, and other written materialsAssist faculty and investigators with the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publicationSupervises research coordinators/core personnel. Works to deploy personnel to work on multiple projects with different deadlines.Participates in laboratory and collaborator meetings. Liaises with investigators across the unit and DOM to ensure coordination of projects with Unit staff. Presents results and protocols as appropriate.General administrativeHelp to set up, organize and develop all aspects of the to be established DOM Biobanking support core.Oversee all communications and outreach for core with the internal and external scientific community, including but not limited to maintenance of the websitePerforms special projects for the Director of Biobanking and the Unit ChiefWorks closely with core services managers Qualifications Qualifications:Masters Degree in a biomedical sciences discipline or directly related field required with at least 3-5 years of experience working in a wet laboratory settingAdvanced degree (M.D. or Ph.D.) preferred. Dissertation research time will be considered in absence of other relevant work experience.Demonstrated professional experience in translational scientific communication, laboratory management, clinical research or other related field Skills / Abilities / Competencies Required:Aptitude for critical thinking as applied to research.Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities at once to effectively meet multiple and variable deadlinesDemonstrated experience in managing junior level staff and excellent interpersonal/communication skills with people from multiple levels and disciplinesAptitude to develop and maintain interdisciplinary collaborationsExceptional computer skills, including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, presentation software (Powerpoint), and EndnoteExcellent command of the English language, including medical/scientific terminology and grant writing skillsTrack record of success in project and program managementEffective analytic skillsAbility to make decisions quickly and independentlyKnowledgeable and compliant in all relevant hospital, State and Federal regulatory requirements, including hospital policy and procedures, and HIPAA regulations.Team-focused and collaborative work style with a high level of professionalismThree eferences that can speak in detail to the candidate's experience will be requested.
