When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you're making a difference in people's lives.Job Type:RegularScheduled Hours:40Work Shift:Day (United States of America)Director Research InformaticsJob Description:Job Summary: This leadership role oversees Research Computing and serves as the key IT service and professional resource and advocate for the Research community and creates alignment between IT resources/assets and the strategic and organizational requirements of the Research Division. Responsible for supporting the IT needs of the Health System Research community in a multi-vendor, multi-platform, computer and network environment that operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. This individual works with the Research Division to define their technology and support resource requirements. In collaboration with these groups, creates viable solutions that include appropriate technologies, resources and funding for these requirements. Ensures the solutions are prioritized and delivered through collaborative efforts with Joslin Information Technology to the satisfaction of the Research Division.Essential Responsibilities: Manages cluster administration resources and staff for consistency of service and performance of scientific computing needs for Research. Provides direction to central IT resources (Infrastructure, Helpdesk, etc.) on the needs and services vital to the success of the Research division. Acts as service liaison to ensure appropriate levels of service are delivered to this constituency as needed.Provides technical leadership for design and implementation of applications. Performs requirements analysis and system specification. Ensures accurate translation of Research problems and requirements into an information system solution following accepted methodology (ex: requirements, design specification, project life cycle planning)Builds consensus among the Health System and research unit management for the Information Technology plan based on enhancements of business opportunities and operational efficiencies. Collaborates with the Information Technology organization to maintain awareness and knowledge of current and emerging information technologies and methodologies.Recommend & implement Research guidelines/procedures for computing equipment, systems & services which support compliance for regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA, local and federal and industry legislation. Educate/lead Research staff in secure/ appropriate use of computers. Document/develop procedures and guidelines as aids to research operations and staff training on appropriate use of tools.Provides assistance and collaboration to other teams, ensuring that all technologies and teams work effectively together to implement and improve products and processes.Develops strong partnerships with partners and third party vendors in developing and maintaining service level agreements, ongoing management of service level compliance, and assist in driving the support knowledge base.Prioritizes projects and features, research stakeholder management and tracking of commitments.Guides the team to make sound operations decisions while improving stability, reliability and security for the research platformsEstablishes an environment that stimulates innovation and creativity and maximizes patient and provider experience.Evaluates computer equipment and software proposals and work with Joslin Information Technology to establish technology standards for Research. Identifies system needs, evaluates vendor selection and supervises programs that involve the necessary internal and external personnel to achieve the objectives of the Center.Has the authority to direct and support managers with functional area responsibilities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 2-3 Indirect Reports: 6-10Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.Required Qualifications:High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.More than 10 years related work experience required and 5-8 years supervisory/management experience required5-10 Years of Experience working in Hospital Research SettingExperience in HPC (High performance Computing) cluster and OMOP ModelsExperience in a healthcare provider settingAdvanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.Competencies:Decision Making: Ability to make decisions with significant, broad implications for the management and operations of a major department or multiple departments. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.Physical Nature of the Job:Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects.
