1/13/23 Massachusetts College of Art and Design is seeking a
talented individual to join our team as the Assistant Vice
President of Facilities Management and Capital Planning. Reporting
to the Vice President of Administration and Finance and working
collaboratively with the campus community, this position provides
strategic leadership to a comprehensive facilities management
organization responsible for maintenance, construction, capital
planning, sustainability, and environmental health and safety for
the College's campus in Boston Massachusetts. This position will
serve as an important member of the President's Cabinet and the
Senior Leadership team. The Assistant Vice President will identify
and implement best practices for the department and develop metrics
to evaluate and manage performance as well as bringing innovation
and emerging trends to the College. The Assistant Vice President
will oversee all capital planning projects and will work closely
with internal and external partners, including Division of Capital
Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) and the Massachusetts
State College Building Authority, on all capital planning
expenditures and contractor relationships. We seek a leader who
will work collaboratively to create exceptional customer service by
all facilities staff to support our students, faculty, staff, and
wider community, including campus visitors.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic:Understand the
College's mission, vision, and values and execute operationally in
support of it.
Collaborate with and advise senior leadership to determine long
term goals, resource planning, operational expectations and best
practices.
Operational:Oversee all planning, and execution for construction,
renovations, groundwork, and aesthetics of the College Campus
Manage day-to-day facilities operations, maintenance, and
environmental health and safety
Generate, negotiate, execute and manage contracts with external
vendors, appropriately following both state and college procurement
policies and procedures
Demonstrate fiscal responsibility for all expenses related to
maintenance, operations and utilities
Enforce safety work rules and procedures in accordance with
Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards, Environmental
Protection Agency, Department of Environmental Protection, and all
applicable local, state, and federal government laws and
regulations.
Serves on the College's Rapid Response Team.
Administrative:Lead, develop and supervise direct reports.
Responsible for assessing and developing a staffing plan for the
recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of department
personnel.
Manage overall combined capital, operating and personnel budget of
approximately $5-7 million.
Develop policies, plans and procedures for the effective operations
of the Department, including preventative maintenance planning and
inspection schedules.
Develop equipment inventory list and ensure maintenance of all
departmental assets at each location.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Education/Training and Experience
Required):To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The
requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,
skill, and/or abilities required.Bachelor's degree in business
management, engineering, facilities management or related field
Seven (7+) plus years in a senior leadership role in
facilities/operations management, preferably in higher education at
an organization of similar size and scope.
Demonstrated supervisory success with skilled labor, exempt and
non-exempt staff
Demonstrated effectiveness working with an ethnically, culturally,
and racially diverse faculty, staff, students and the general
public.
Excellent project management skills including ability to manage
multiple priorities and projects while adhering to deadlines and
budgets
Demonstrated a high caliber of written, verbal and presentation
skills
Proficiency in a variety of software applications (ie. Microsoft
Office, CAD, CAM)
Valid driver's license and ability to travel domestically
(regionally)
Additional Consideration will be given for the following levels of
education, experience and knowledge, skills and abilities
Master's degree in business management, engineering, facilities
management or related field
Professional Engineer Certification helpful
Prior experience working with public capital projects (state
governing bodies - DCAMM and MSCBA)
Prior experience working in a unionized work setting
Knowledge of emerging technologies in the areas of sustainability
and environmental safety
Proficiency in construction management and project management
software
Prior experience in or knowledge of the facilities needs of a
working art museum
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: This job requires
the ability to be on call and includes significant night and
weekend work. Ability to work behind a computer for long periods.
Mobility between campus buildings, on and off-site facilities. This
role serves as essential personnel, which requires presence on the
College's Rapid Response Team.Additional Information:
