Job DescriptionVertex is seeking to hire an Associate Director
of Forecasting & Gross-To-Net (GTN) to join the US Market Access
team within the Commercial organization. The role will be
responsible for forecasting the GTN of new commercial assets in the
Vertex portfolio, while concurrently leading the financial
evaluations for Vertex's contracting process. This individual will
also partner with Trade & Distribution to establish best practices
and processes for forecasting channel inventory across Vertex's
commercialized and late-stage pipeline assets.This is an exciting
opportunity for an expert in US pricing, contracting and market
access to collaborate cross-functionally across Vertex and deliver
best-in class forecasting methodologies on GTN for innovative and
transformative therapies. This role will report to the Director of
Forecasting & GTN and is a hybrid position based out of Boston,
MA.Primary Responsibilities
- Lead thought partnering with US and Global Market Access
Strategy on the commercialization roadmap for pipeline assets,
providing recommendations and financial guidance as required to
achieve the target GTN profile
- Develop business cases for new/existing payer and trade
contract proposals, working closely with Contracting Operations,
Field Accounts, Government Pricing, and Market Access Strategy to
articulate the value proposition and business considerations to
senior executives
- Provide insights on contracting proposals through robust
analytical justifications, including recommendations on complex
pricing and contracting strategies
- Establish best practices and processes for forecasting channel
inventory at specialty pharmacies and distributors through a
collaborative approach with the Trade & Distribution team
- Generate insights and lead complex analyses to address
strategic questions on trends and policy changes in the industry
particularly pertaining to Medicaid, Medicare and the 340B
Program
- Provide support for the annual long-range planning (LRP)
process, which plays a key role in strategic and tactical planning.
The LRP process requires substantial cross-functional collaboration
to collect and integrate inputs, across all current and future
markets
- Provide a high degree of support for the US monthly and annual
forecasting process, focusing on the current year and following
year, and project net revenue by modeling numerous underlying GTN
drivers, ensuring quality of output and recommendations, as well as
timeliness and business relevance of decision support

- Deliver robust quantitative forecast assessments of managed
care segment discount mix with clear articulation of the key
drivers, sensitivities, risks and opportunities
- Integrate relevant pricing and utilization data and information
from various sources and databases to develop business case
analysis, reporting, scorecards, etc.
- Lead cross-functional efforts with other Vertex teams such as
Market Access Strategy, Public Affairs, Commercial Legal, US Sales
& Marketing, Global Pricing & Market Access, FP&A, Commercial
Sales Operations and Forecasting, Accounting, etc. to ensure
transparency and collaboration across key decisionsMinimum
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g.,
Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Finance)
- 8+ years of US pharmaceutical industry experience with
increasing responsibilities in Forecasting / Market Access /
Finance, or 3+ years for candidates with equivalent experience in
strategy / healthcare consulting for product assessments, pricing
and new drug launches in the pharmaceutical industry or the
equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior experience in developing short- and long-term commercial
forecasts, GTN models, pricing and contracting break-even
analysis
- Excellent working knowledge of the evolving US pricing &
reimbursement dynamics and health system environment for specialty,
rare and transformative therapies, such as cell and gene
therapy
- Track record of producing insights and analysis based on
Government Pricing (Medicaid, Medicare, 340B) and syndicated Market
Access datasets (IQVIA, MMIT etc.), communicating such impacts and
sensitivity analysis to senior management
- Demonstrated understanding of contracting with PBMs, trade &
distribution partners and strategies for value-driven pricing and
reimbursements
- Exposure and understanding of financial systems (such as
Oracle, Hyperion, SAP etc.)
- Experienced in complex Excel modeling (and preferably some
exposure to VBA) and executing on PowerPoint presentations for
senior management
- Proficient in analyzing large data sets such as transactional
or claims data, using a statistical analysis software package
(e.g., SAS or equivalent) or SQL interface
- Strong analytical and business acumen: intellectual curiosity,
motivation, and ability to structure problems, diagnose issues and
triangulate with multiple approaches while keeping sight of the
"big picture"
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to influence
and collaborate with a diverse stakeholder community to achieve
actionable and timely results, through establishing strong and
sustainable relationships
- Self-starter with a passion for collaboration across different
functional stakeholders to deliver the best possible outcome
- Right first time mentality with a high level of attention to
detail and the ability to prioritize concurrent
