Job Description:
Job Title: Index Analyst (Boston, MA) Duties: Conducts analytical and quantitative analyses using SQL,
Bloomberg, and index vendor databases. Acts as a member of the
index equity portfolio management team -- manages all aspects of
benchmarks used in passive equity strategies. Supports benchmarks
that cover domestic and internationally developed and emerging
markets -- market capitalization and factor-based index weighting
schemes. Ensures accurate and actionable index data is available in
the portfolio management system to ensure funds minimize tracking
errors and indices can be tracked. Analyzes timing impacts of
domestic and international corporate actions on relevant
indices. Primary Responsibilities: Conducts daily validation of all index loads and index changes
into the portfolio management system. Track and validates periodic -- monthly, quarterly, semi-annual,
and annual -- index rebalance dates to ensure proforma index data
is accurately loaded into the portfolio management system. Performs daily analysis of index change events that drive the
trading of index funds -- exchange-traded funds (ETFs), separately
managed accounts, and sub-advised mutual funds for domestic and
international investors. Acts as a subject matter expert on index methodologies of index
providers. Provide feedback of global best practices for self-indexing
benchmarks. Maintains strong working relationships with global index
providers and gives feedback during index methodology
consultations. Ensures that vendor index changes are consistent with the stated
methodology and establishes deliverables adhere to stated
timelines. Evaluates and responds to voluntary corporate actions on behalf
of funds and recommends trade strategies based on elections and
their investment impact to ensure that funds track their
benchmark. Evaluate and make recommendations on proxy votes. Partners with internal technology teams to streamline the
processing of vendor data and development of internal investment
analytical tools. Supports ad-hoc index analyses for internal and external client
presentations. Generates the fund reports for the Chief Investment Officers
weekly meeting. Requirements: Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent)
in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Business
Administration, Mathematics, or a closely related field and five
(5) years of experience in the job offered or five (5) years of
experience creating and administering indices used by fund managers
for passive and active strategies; Or, alternatively, Masters
degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Finance, Economics,
Accounting, Statistics, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a
closely related field and three (3) years of experience in the job
offered or three (3) years of experience creating and administering
indices used by fund managers for passive and active strategies.
Candidate must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (DE) evaluating
the economics of voluntary corporate actions for mergers and
acquisitions, tender offers, and equity rights, using Bloomberg and
Excel spreadsheets; responding to voluntary corporate action
elections on behalf of index portfolios that maximize shareholder
value and minimize tracking error; and analyzing the timing of
index implementation of corporate actions based on stated index
methodology -- S&P, Dow Jones, Nasdaq, MSCI, FTSE,
S&P/Fidelity customized indices, and Russell; DE verifying the
accuracy of daily index constituent data for 150+ unique indices
and projecting future index changes in portfolio management
systems; and analyzing data issues in IHS Markit Enterprise Data
Management (EDM) SOLA index data used in portfolio management
systems to determine data accuracy or variance with vendor index
data using exceptions based diagnostic checks; DE using SQL
queries, Excel via Bloomberg Add-in, and index vendor databases to
perform: analytical analysis and reporting -- extracting historical
data; aggregating historical index attributes -- index turnover;
verifying historical index holdings; analyzing historical portfolio
index changes and corporate action results to determine optimal
forwarding looking decisions; and creating weekly reports for
investment review and decision making that captures performance,
ex-ante tracking error, cash flow, and fund future levels; DE
analyzing and documenting cross-functional business workflows using
Miro; creating business requirements and process improvements in
EDM to ensure delivery of accurate and timely index constituent
data to portfolio management systems; automating manual processes
to reduce operational business risks; testing technology
enhancements in EDM to improve efficient maintenance of an index
rebalance calendar and to ensure seamless integration with new
