GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENTWorking under the general supervision of Principal Investigator, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts a variety of routine experiments where methodologies are clearly established exploring mechanisms of autoimmune disease/inflammation. Ongoing projects include novel pathways that regulate macrophage biology linked to autoimmune disease, pathways instrumental in non-resolving inflammation and triggering for kidney disease, and macrophage mediated mechanisms of muscular dystrophy. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder supervision performs routine and non-routine experiments that are moderate to complex. These experiments will include:Preparing RNA and cDNA from mouse.Probing the expression of molecules in tissues, and cells from urine and blood using REALTIME PCR.Cutting cryostat sections and doing immunostaining.Keeping records of specimens.Preforming western blotting.Tissue culture: short term and long term, (maintaining cell lines)Calculates and analyzes data using statistical methods, and graphs the data.Performs literature searches and assists in the preparation of manuscripts.Establishes new and modifies existing research techniques.Coordinates lab activities including bio-safety and animal protocols.Assists in orientating new trainees.All other duties, as assigned.Qualifications BS in a biological/physical science required.Prior lab experience is helpfulSKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Good organizational skills, detail orientedSound degree of computer literacyAbility to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statisticsAbility to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize workGood interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to demonstrate professionalismEEO Statement Brigham and Women's Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
