ML Tech Lead (Principal) - Surgical Robotics This exciting leadership position is responsible for the strategic planning and execution of the long-term evolution of machine learning (ML) technologies that serve as key enabler for improved Robotic Assisted Surgery. You will work with the Medtronic surgical robotics team and other relevant teams to create future AI capabilities to augment an already existing robotic surgical platform, from inception, to R&D, and commercial launch. A Day in the Life As the ML Tech Lead, you will be a R&D leader of innovation developing ML technologies to augment Medtronic's Robotic Surgery Platform for improved surgery. As the tech lead of ML R&D projects, you will lead a cross-functional team with members from Centers of Excellence (Systems, HW, SW), other teams and both internal and external experts. You will leverage your technical expertise on ML technologies, and your management skills to influence cross-functional project teams for delivery of excellent results. You are expected to be able to innovate and identify promising ML technologies, reduce key technical risks, and guide the development from research prototype to commercialization. If needed, you will represent the R&D function, as the R&D core team member, to work with the core team consisting of Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Program management and Operation to make critical decision regarding projects execution and future product roadmap. Must Have: Minimum Requirements Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience Nice to Have: Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of 10 years' experience in relevant work with 2 years in a regulated industry Preferred Technical Experience: Experience researching & developing AI technologies based on machine learning, for example, basic CNNs, GANs, Reinforcement learning, and self-supervised learning. Experience of working on data strategy including how to use limited data for training and verification. Background on medical imaging and experience of developing applications such as critical structure identification & tracking in a real-world scenario (bonus: in a surgical field with soft tissue). Detailed understanding of critical performance criteria that help make training platform choice Agile SW development experience for quick iterations towards maturity Understanding of robotics and real-time operating systems Preferred Project Leadership Experience A proven leader of innovation on multiple, multidisciplinary projects Proven ability to translate high level program objectives into action plans for an R&D team in order to meet short- and long-term goals and timelines Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate, influence, and inspire others around a vision of excellence for a bright future Well-developed collaboration skills with proven track record of interfacing between multiple groups and functions (R&D, QA, marketing, regulatory, and external experts) Patient centric mindset with a strong desire to improve clinical outcomes About Medtronic
