Job Description:
Department Summary: Interventional radiology is a minimally
invasive way of assessing disease and delivering targeted
treatments. Interventional radiologists are board-certified
physicians with advanced training in minimally invasive therapy
guided by imaging tools such as fluoroscopy (X-ray), computed
tomography (CT) and ultrasound. Many diseases that once required
surgical treatment can be treated non-surgically by interventional
radiologists with less risk, less pain, and faster recovery time.
It is routinely used to perform biopsies and to place shunts,
feeding and drainage tubes, and peripherally inserted central
catheters (PICCs). It can also be an alternative to surgery for
serious medical conditions, such as vascular malformations, blood
clots and kidney or liver abnormalities. Key Responsibilities: -
Managing patients in Interventional Radiology throughout the
continuum of care. - Patient assessment, procedural care, and
recovery from anesthesia. - Interventional radiology is a
procedural unit that operates Monday-Friday for scheduled cases and
covers emergencies on off hours for both ambulatory and inpatients.
IR performs a wide range of sterile and non-sterile procedures
using minimally invasive techniques; Some examples include
Angiography, Sclerotherapy, Embolization, Needle Biopsy, Vascular
Access, Cryoablation, Radiofrequency Ablation, thrombectomy, and
Gastrojejunostomy exchanges. - Working 10-hour day and evening
shifts, 30 hours per week between the hours of 6:00am – 7:00pm
Monday – Friday and call rotations. - On Call rotations for
nights/weekends/holidays are typically 2 – 3 weeknights/month, 6 –
7 weekends a year, and 1 holiday/year. - Must be able to report to
the hospital within 45 minutes when on call. Minimum Qualifications
Education: - Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Experience: - A
minimum of 2 years of Critical Care, Radiology, ED, peri-operative,
procedural or Inpatient experience preferred. - Pediatric
experience and PALS certification preferred. - Strong attention to
detail, excellent critical thinking, and superb collaborative
skills. - Demonstrated excellence in both verbal and written
communication. Licensure/ Certifications: - Current Massachusetts
license as a Registered Nurse (RN) The posted pay range is Boston
Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at
the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills,
experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other
job-related factors. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive
