Summary: The Staff Development Coordinator will gather and analyze data to uncover trends and patterns related to quality patient care and adherence to regulations. This role involves creating and presenting quality assurance reports to the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) for evaluation. You will work closely with the nursing management team to pinpoint areas for performance enhancement concerning quality patient care and compliance. Additionally, you will provide Certified Nursing Assistants (C.N.A.s) with essential information to fulfill their job responsibilities according to facility standards, offering support and assessing/reporting individual skills, strengths, and needs. Essential Functions: Job Duties: Deliver exceptional customer service to residents, their families, and visitors to the community. Oversee the orientation process for all new hires in the Nursing Department, ensuring that employee files are complete and health profiles are accurate. Facilitate the completion of mandatory educational components for employees from other departments and volunteers, including topics such as resident rights, abuse prevention, fire safety, and infection control. Ensure that required in-services are scheduled, conducted, and documented. Identify educational needs through annual staff evaluations and ongoing assessments based on resident conditions and treatment requirements, considering new policies and procedures. Create a monthly calendar of educational programs tailored to facility-specific needs, including both mandatory and optional training. Coordinate in-service training sessions with consultants and contracting agencies. Collect infection tracking data from unit managers and compile monthly infection control surveillance reports. Identify trends, review findings with the clinical team, and submit reports for clinical analysis. Present findings at monthly safety meetings and quarterly QA committee meetings. Monitor and report on vaccine compliance for staff and residents, including flu, pneumonia, and COVID-19 vaccinations. Work with the scheduler to identify open positions within the nursing department. Conduct interviews and hire candidates for nursing roles. Create personnel files for all new hires and submit them to HR. Document and complete orientation for new employees. Maintain and document care plans for resident wounds, including treatments and progress toward goals. Analyze incident and accident data to identify areas for improvement. Assist the DNS with investigations related to grievances and allegations of abuse. Review clinical processes concerning acute transfers and collaborate with the nursing management team to enhance the use of the INTERACT program to minimize acute transfers. Track and analyze medication errors to identify educational needs and improvement opportunities. Support the DNS in researching, creating, implementing, and assessing policies and procedures. Participate in the implementation of the ABIQIS QA program as directed by the DNS. Provide guidelines for managing residents with dementia, suicidal tendencies, or terminal illnesses according to their care plans, acting as a resource for information as needed. Facilitate the integration of new employees into the team by introducing them to fellow C.N.A.s, nurses, and other department members. Foster relationships with residents through introductions and guide them on where to find essential care-related information, utilizing the C.N.A. resident care Kardex and care plan daily. Orient new C.N.A.s to the location of supplies. Emphasize the importance of teamwork and ensure the safety, rights, and dignity of residents are upheld. Provide feedback to the Supervisor/Unit Manager regarding new employee performance at the end of the first week of orientation, reporting any significant concerns immediately. Complete the orientation checklist, have the new hire sign it, and submit it to the Staff Development Coordinator for inclusion in the personnel file. Conduct employee evaluations and submit them to the Staff Development Coordinator at the end of the orientation period. Reinforce information provided on the first day of orientation and continue to emphasize its importance, including the use of gait belts, universal precautions, and documentation practices. Attend monthly meetings to discuss facility issues and concerns. Act as a facilitator for peers by communicating new policies, in-services, and system changes. Participate in weekly care plan meetings as available. Organize daily safety rounds and ensure effective communication between shifts. Compliance & Safety Adhere to emergency procedures. Understand and follow safety practices and protocols. Communication Communicate effectively with supervisors and other staff members. Notify supervisors and relevant managers immediately of any changes in residents' physical or mental health. Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current R.N. or L.P.N. license in Massachusetts is required. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (or obtain within six months of employment). Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Special Vocational Requirements Minimum of three years of experience as a wound care nurse. Experience in collecting and analyzing infection control data. Prior involvement in regulatory surveys is essential. Familiarity with JCAHO standards is required. Experience in writing and implementing corrective action plans. Extensive knowledge of long-term care regulations is necessary.
