Job Description:
The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) – Brigham & Women’s
Hospital (BWH) Department of Medicine seeks an academic and
clinical leader to serve as Chief of the MGH-BWH Division of
Palliative Care, Aging, and Geriatric Medicine. This role offers a
unique opportunity to shape the future of palliative care and
geriatric medicine as the Division becomes integrated across two of
the nation’s leading medical institutions. A primary responsibility
of the new Division Chief will be to create and build a new
Palliative Care clinical service (for both oncology and
non-oncology patients) at the BWH location, and to collaborate with
the MGB Cancer Institute on designing an enterprise-wide strategy.
The Chief will work closely with faculty and leadership in the
Department of Medicine at MGH-BWH to advance the Division’s mission
in clinical care, education, research, and community health. The
ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in clinical care,
leadership, administration, and management, as well as a record of
research and academic achievement. They will bring a collaborative,
forward-thinking approach, with a special emphasis on transparent,
effective communication, deep listening, and the ability to unite
and inspire teams around a shared vision. A commitment to
multidisciplinary care models, advancing high-quality care for all
patients, and fostering clinical and scientific collaboration is
essential. The Division of Palliative Care, Aging, and Geriatric
Medicine (PCAGM) at MGH-BWH is the academic home for 70 faculty
members, many of whom have built nationally recognized programs
that advance clinical care, research, and education. The Division
supports robust training programs for medical students, internal
medicine residents, and 15 palliative care and geriatric medicine
fellows. The clinical activities of the Division span multiple
outpatient practices and inpatient consultative programs throughout
the Mass General Brigham health system. The Chief will play a key
role in strengthening these programs and expanding collaborative
efforts across Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School. The
candidate must meet the requirements for appointment at the rank of
Associate Professor or Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical
School, with experience, training, and achievements in addition to
teaching activities. Suitable candidates will have an MD and Board
Certification in Palliative Care and/or Geriatric Medicine. We
encourage applications from individuals with a track record of
visionary leadership, administrative excellence, and a passion for
advancing the field of Palliative Care, Aging, and Geriatrics
through clinical innovation, research, and education. For questions
