In Abbotts Electrophysiology and Heart Failure (EPHF) division, were advancing the treatment of heart and vascular disease through breakthrough medical technologies, As a global leader in Mechanical Circulatory Support Therapy, our breakthrough medical device technologies help restore people's health so they can get back to living their best lives, faster.We focus on innovative technologies that can improve the way doctors treat people with heart failure (HF).As Staff Embedded Software Engineer, you will be part of our Mechanical Circulatory SupportTherapy product development team focused on planning and delivering of custom in-house embedded software applications developed for Implantable Devices meeting both short term and long-term goals of our patients. Located in either our Burlington, MA or our Plymouth, MN sites, you will provide technical leadership and manage delivery of embedded software projects that meet customers needs in terms of functionalities, performance, time, and cost; reporting progress of project to upper management and customers.Duties and Responsibilities:Lead a group of embedded software developers and contribute towards developing class III implantable medical device that has been awarded breakthrough technology designation.Work from requirement specifications, designs, develop, maintain, and update embedded softwareLead day to day technical development of the software, including supporting other developers in software design, implementation, unit testing, and debugging.Participate in cybersecurity risk assessment, requirements development, and implementation of cybersecurity features and best practices.Participate in and support implementation, new creation, enhancements, and modifications to embedded software, source code, scripts, and proceduresDebug, troubleshoot, and isolate software problems and offer strategic advice regarding identified issues for future development;Develop design concepts (i.e. parameters, structure, and core components).Present at design reviews; document and resolve issues as directed.Contribute to and supports reviews held by other engineers on related projects and provide useful feedback.Contribute to and support a variety of development and test phase efforts.May write and update requirement specifications for an assigned area.Review project deliverables such as specifications, code, and test/tool procedures for feasibility, thoroughness, clarity, correctness, and accuracy.Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.Experience and Education Requirements:Bachelors degree (Major in CS, EE, or related field preferred)+ years of development experience using C/C++ in an embedded environment for micro-controllers.Experience with visual modeling, graphical user interfaces, multi-threading, networking, relational databases, formal software development methodologies, and source code management.Experience with unit- and integration-level testing and automated testing.Ability to plan for project deliverables and manage the project team towards meeting schedule and cost, as well as delivering product of high quality.Ability to communicate technical solutions and issues clearly and adequately to management as well as members on the project.Experience with Embedded Software Development within the regulated medical field.Experience analyzing and debugging embedded system using oscilloscopes, logic Analyzers and any other appropriate equipment.Experience in working in an iterative (Scrum, Kanban) development process.Ability to capture and analyze customers needs, to understand design and solution towards solutions.Experience with MS OfficeHands-on Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (ThreadX/Azure OS preferred).Preferred Qualifications / EducationMasters degree in related field (education may substitute for some years of experience)Experience in Implantable technologiesAbility to lead and manage a team from multiple sites to work cohesively.Ability to identify initiatives for process improvement.Ability to capture and analyze customers needs, to understand design and solution towards solutions a must.Experience in programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.Experience of multi-tasking systems and real-time application development (ex. threading, semaphores, processes, etc.).Experience of low-level real time system development, such as interrupts, and device drivers.Knowledge of hardware breadboards and PC hardware system interfaces and embedded systems.Experience with cybersecurity for embedded devices (threat modeling/CSRA or digital signing preferred)Experience with BLE 5.0 a plusWHAT WE OFFERAt Abbott, you can have a good job that can grow into a great career.
