Job Description:
Advise and assist multinational corporate clients in handling
immigration and visa matters arising from the employment of foreign
nationals in Canada. Working independently, analyze and advise corporate
clients regarding matters presenting significant questions of
employability in Canada. Apply sound judgment and discretion and effectively
communicate with clients, Canadian and U.S. governments, and regulatory
agencies related to the process of employment placements abroad. Work
directly with assignees, Canadian and U.S. government agencies and officials,
and foreign attorneys where needed, to file and procure approval of Canadian
and U.S. work permits, residence permits and visas and to resolve complex
legal and regulatory issues that may arise in the application process as a
result of the employee's personal situations including criminal
backgrounds and any other potential problem areas, such as medical inadmissibility
or inadmissibility based on non-compliance with the Immigration and
Refugee Protect Protection Act. Develop correspondence, communications materials
and process process flow charts for clients, including all levels of
management, detaili detailing the processes and documentary requirements for
obtaining work authori authorization, visas and residence permits in Canada. Education Juris Doctorate (J.D.) (willing to accept foreign education
equivalent). Special Requirements: • Member of Canadian provincial law society and passage of a
U.S. Bar e examination in Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Georgia,
California, T Texas or the District of Columbia; • Demonstrated Expertise (DE) preparing and reviewing
applications for Canadian permanent residency, intra-company transferee work
permits, N NAFTA professional work permits, Labour Market Impact
Assessments, and T Temporary Resident Visas. • DE preparing clients for Port of Entry examinations and
directly l liaised with Canadian immigration officials. • DE advising on criminal inadmissibility by preparing
Temporary Resident Permit and Rehabilitation applications and drafting
arguments for deemed rehabilitation by conducting equivalency analyses and
advising clients about disclosure obligations and the related
