Job Description:

The Role Moderna is seeking a Scientist or Principal Research Associate to join the Nucleic Acid Process Development team at our Technical Development site in Norwood, MA. This location is T-accessible by using the commuter rail. Moderna also has a shuttle that runs from the train stations to our sites. The individual will fill the role of mechanistic and process modeling scientist developing models and simulations to advance in-silico and high-throughput process development initiatives. As a data savvy scientist, the individual will use first principal knowledge, machine learning techniques, and experimental data to develop mechanistic, multivariate, statistical and/or hybrid models to improve process understanding, drive in-silico design/optimization, and advanced process control. An important aspect of the role is understanding customer requirements to develop solutions that are fit-for-purpose. The individual will work cross-functionally across Moderna Technical Development space with colleagues working in DNA, mRNA, Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) formulation, and Drug Product (DP) process development advancing a portfolio of mechanistic process models for key unit operations. Examples of model and simulation applications include plasmid fermentation, mRNA synthesis, product separation/chromatography, and computational fluid dynamics of mixing vessels. Although, the individual will not need to be a lab expert, they should be comfortable supporting lab data generation (e.g. kinetic reaction rates), Design of Experiments (DoE), statistical analysis, and defining/documenting modeling/digital workflows.
