The Provisional Pediatric Genetic Counselor will be responsible for:

• Obtaining family history, determining testing to be ordered, providing genetic testing results to patients. All clinical care is performed in conjunction with two Pediatric Otolaryngologists who specialize in genetic pediatric hearing loss.
• Working with Otolaryngologists and other providers in maintaining and further developing an internal organizational structure for the integration of comprehensive clinical genetics for patient care.
• Chart review, data compilation, large genomic data set analysis, analysis of newly identified possible pathogenic variants.
• Manuscript writing and IRB submission opportunities as needed.
• Performing all duties and responsibilities in compliance with the Guidelines for General Supervision of Provisionally Licensed Genetic Counselors as established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration of Genetic Counselors, Policy No. 08-04, 270 CMR 2.00-4.00. --
  To qualify, you must have---
  • Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
  • Provisionally Licensed Genetic Counselors as established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration of Genetic Counselors, Policy No. 08-04, 270 CMR 2.00-4.00
  • No previous experience is required. Work requires good communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions.
  • The ability to work in Boston and Waltham, with the flexibility to travel to one of the other satellite locations as needed. The Department of--Otolaryngology & Communication Enhancement is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated full-time provisional Genetic Counselor to work in both clinical care and research for children with hearing loss and other otolaryngologic disorders. We see a large number of children with hearing loss for whom we obtain genetic testing. The majority of childhood hearing loss is due to a genetic cause and our department has been at the forefront of clinical evaluation and research for children with genetic hearing loss for more than twenty years. We also run several hearing loss studies focused on new genetic testing methodologies (exome and genome sequencing). As part of our research team there is an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of genetic hearing loss research using exome and genome sequencing. We are part of the large genomics infrastructure at Boston Children's Hospital, including the Children's Rare Disease Cohort Initiative, with research access to data from thousands of patients.
