  The Advanced Concepts and Technology Mission Area in Raytheon Intelligence & Space, seeks a Sr. Principal Lead Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership across a product line of Advanced Mission Systems . The position will reside in the System Engineering Center (SEC) within the TBD section. This systems engineer will work amongst other systems, hardware and software engineers and various customers to develop new technology in a fast paced environment. Challenges will include working with customers and operational analysis engineers to develop CONOPS which will shape product roadmaps, architectures and requirements. This engineer will work to close the trade space of the advanced hardware, software and firmware requirements to produce overall system application performance that meets the customer's needs. The ideal candidate will be capable of understanding the technology, applications and overall system well enough to influence trades relating to communication systems for advanced tactical and strategic platforms and ultimately integrate and demonstrate the system capabilities.
  The Systems Engineering Center (SEC) Department is involved in all aspects of Systems Engineering across the program lifecycle of Protected and Tactical Communication Systems programs. The SEC Department supports a variety of communications systems including Secure Switching Networks, SATCOM (including AEHF, EHF, X-Band, Ka-Band, Ku-Band, C-Band, PTW), line of sight and networking for ground based, ship, submarine, and airborne platforms. We are seeking a recognized technical leader committed to creating creative and cost-effective solutions for our communications systems. Job Related Activities:
  • Working with customers to shape product roadmaps, architectures, requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Engage customers to shape anticipated RFI's and RFP's and lead the development of technical responses.
  • Advocating and implementing effective requirements management on multiple programs in the AMS portfolio.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor other engineers to successfully implement requirements management
  • Creating manageable requirements links between operational analysis, customer requirements, hardware, software and firmware requirements.
  • Creating basis of estimate documentation and supporting bidding activities
  • Conduct or participate in customer reviews and program technical reviews thus providing technical governance over programs in the portfolio.
  • Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practices and all activities undertaken under your control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon's IPDS processes
  • Using Raytheon 6 Sigma proactively to foster a culture of continuous process improvement
    * Required Skills:
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering, Systems, Electrical or Software
    • Minimum of 5 years of system engineering experience with RF systems
    • Experience with DOORs
    • Experience working with both customer and internal resources
    • Excellent executive-level written and verbal communication skills
      • Deep understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycles and demonstrable application of relevant methodologies and toolsets;
      • US Citizenship
      • Active DoD Secret Clearance
        Desired Skills:
        • Engineering experience on development or integration programs
        • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS), IMS, & IMP tools or equivalent for managing programs
        • Capability in leading an IPT or cross-function teams in program implementation
        • Strong background in RF systems, digital active electronically steered arrays and communication waveforms.
        • Background with PTW, IFDL, MADL and other tactical waveforms
        • Understanding of TranSec and CommSec and the Crypto architectures that implement them
        • Ability to translate platform mission requirements to system/subsystem requirements
        • Experience integrating Multifunction RF systems
        • Experience with model based system engineering principles and tools (Magic Draw, Enterprise Architect, Rhapsody, and the like)
        • Experience in writing ICDs, IDDs, SSSs, SSDDs and ADDs
        • Worked a design development program using Agile Framework methodology
        • Skilled at anticipating problems and planning to mitigate them
        • Experience with OSA (open systems architecture)
        • Proposal writing experience
        • Experience writing tech volumes, bidding, or generating basis of estimate documentation
