REQUIRED: PhD./equivalent degree in atmospheric or Earth
sciences, environmental engineering, aerospace engineering, or
related field; background in global atmospheric modeling with a
focus on the climate and air quality impacts of anthropogenic
emissions or in analyzing Earth observation data, preferably using
machine learning; willingness to expand focus to cover several of
the topics outlined in the scope of work; strong analytical,
problem-solving, documentation, technical writing, organizational,
and interpersonal skills; proficiency in English communication;
ability to contribute in a multidisciplinary team setting,
prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, and
execute detailed technical protocols meticulously; self-motivation;
and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
PREFERRED: experience with atmospheric modeling using either
regional/global CTMs, GCMs, or plume-scale models and/or Earth
observation data; programming experience in Python, Julia, MATLAB,
or other programming languages for data analysis; experience
applying machine learning and deep learning methods to Earth
science data; ability to work in Linux-based high-performance
computing environments; and a publication record in the fields
noted above or related fields. An ideal candidate will have

The appointment will be for one year with the possibility of
renewal pending satisfactory performance and funding
POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, ATMOSPHERIC MODELING, Aeronautics and
Astronautics, to contribute to research in atmospheric modeling and
Earth observation data. The goal of the research is to investigate
the impacts of aviation emissions on the climate and air quality.
Specifically, research will include global and regional atmospheric
simulation; exploitation of Earth observation data; applications of
machine learning for Earth science; science and simulation of
contrails; impacts of novel energy solutions; and the physics and
chemistry of high-altitude emissions.
