Job Summary

An experienced development professional, the Major Gift Officer, will manage assigned portfolios of major gift prospects and develop strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors.

Essential Functions

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO), reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding constituents to generate major gifts in support of the mission and programs of Curry College. The position requires travel with the majority of community members living in the New England Region. The individual will be both donor-focused and College committed to enhancing the relationships that will result in funding for the institution's immediate and long-term goals.

  1. Portfolio Development
  • Manage a prospect portfolio of approximately 200 prospects;
  • Identify and qualify new prospects to be added to the portfolio as needed;
  • Move prospects through the stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship;
  • Document engagement to ensure that meaningful contacts and giving data are appropriately captured in institutional records;
  • Blackbaud database experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Working knowledge of prospect research software and principles.
  1. Fundraising
  • Ability to initiate and build philanthropic relationships with prospective parent, alumni and foundational donors, and interact via telephone, digital platforms, and in-person to secure donations;
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and experience developing prospect relationship, from identification to stewardship to obtain contributions;
  • Develop and present proposals to prospects/donors for funding;
  • Ability to have complex financial discussions with donors and their financial representatives;
  • Close major gifts from $25,000 to $500,000, with goal of $1M each year;
  • Aptitude for persuasion, motivation, and promotion to secure resources;
  • Create materials and engage with campus leaders for donors stewardship;
  • Minimum of three to five years of frontline fundraising;
  • Ability to travel as necessary;
  • Available for nights and weekends as needed.
  1. Alumni & Family Engagement
  • Expand and lead Curry Family Council Leadership Committee;
  • Initiate opportunities for members of the college community to interact with prospects/donors and interpret the interests of various stakeholders;
  • Develop philanthropic engagement tools to expand giving to the College.

Additional Functions

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a related field;
  • 3-5 years of fundraising or related sales experience;
  • Proven record of closing gifts $25,000+;
  • Valid Driver's License Required.

At the College's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the College, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
