The MITRE Corporation's Resilient Communications Department (N152) supports communication capabilities used by the United States military and International partners across all domains from underwater, to aerial-layer, and space-based. The Resilient Communications Department's focus is on creating and fielding adaptive communications and networking infrastructure needed for successful execution of different mission areas for Operations in Contested Environments (OCE). This involves modernizing fielded communications capabilities in the near/mid-terms and developing/fielding the next generation communications in all phases of systems evolution from concept exploration, through experimentation and development. DoD communications needs pose unique challenges to operate globally in dynamic or denied environments including the effects of electronic warfare. MITRE works hand-in-hand with Government sponsors to serve as technical advisors bringing domain experience and state-of-the-art solutions to solve unique communications challenges. The department's primary areas of concentration are in RF communications, networking, modeling and simulation, system integrations, systems engineering, and software programming. Key responsibilities include:

  • You will serve as a thought leader in advanced networking concepts engaging with sponsors and within MITRE to analyze operational requirements, address networking challenges, and apply sound technology solutions to benefit sponsor missions

  • You will develop wireless network models and network control services for a variety of protocols and devices

  • You will analyze, experiment, model and simulate (M&S), emulate, and/or test DoD wireless networks

  • You will apply systems engineering concepts to shape the specification, development, integration, and test strategies of next generation military communications systems across the Air Force Portfolio

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in an engineering discipline and 5 years of related experience

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret

  • Possess experience with distributed systems to include development, implementation, modeling, or simulation of network routing and transport protocols.

  • Possess experience with modern software development methods, and object-oriented programming skills, including one or more of the following: C/C++, Python, Java, JavaScript

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across multiple organizations and engineering disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with network performance testing, measurement, and analysis techniques and tools

  • Familiarity with tactical data networking, distributed computing, tactical MANET or mesh networks, topology management, or quality of service and traffic engineering

  • Familiarity with systems engineering concepts from development through requirements definition, system development and integration, and verification

  • Experienced with network simulation and emulation tools such as OPNET, EXata, EMANE, CORE, QualNet, NS3, OMNet++

  • MS or PhD in engineering discipline with 5+ years relevant experience
