Overview

An immediate opening for a research technician is available in Dr. William Shih's lab. We aim to develop structural DNA nanostructure-based cancer immunotherapies.

The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists experienced in biochemistry, DNA nanotechnology, cancer immunotherapy, cellular and molecular biology and animal tumor models to develop novel cancer vaccines targeting a broad range of cancer types. The successful candidate will participate and learn the process of an interdisciplinary project using multiple technologies.

This project is highly clinically translational. We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated candidate with cellular biology and/or biochemistry training who is willing to learn multi-discipline approaches for cancer immunotherapies. In general, the individual will work closely with a postdoc in charging of this project and be engaged in experiments that utilize biochemistry for DNA nanotechnology and immunological cellular biology techniques as well as animal tumor models after well-training. The individual will also assist in daily laboratory operations and organization.

We are looking for candidates with a minimum of two-year availability. Candidates with laboratory technician experience and those potentially interested in a long-term position are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct bench level experiments to support the goals of scientific research in DNA origami vaccine development
  • Execute protocols to fold DNA origami and prepare vaccines; work with tumor cell, dendritic cell and T cell cultures, and cell stimulation and sampling
  • Assist with experiments such as flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blots, and immunoprecipitation; assist with animal tumor model set up, observation and sampling
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (Such as microscope, TEM and flow cytometer) to complete investigations
  • Maintaining accurate records, analyzing data, writing reports, and preparing presentations; participate in team meetings for experimental planning
  • Prepare, order, and maintain stocks of necessary reagents, solutions and supplies; organize lab items and maintain lab protocols up to date

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Biology or biochemistry related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and principles of cellular and molecular biology
  • Some knowledge in nanotechnology or immunology would be a plus
  • Must feel comfortable working with mice
  • Enthusiastic, team player, and self-motivated individual; excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment required; Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks
