The Spiritual Care Coordinator works under the direction of the Director of Patient Experience (PX) to oversee Spiritual Care Services at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. The coordinator oversees administrative components of the program and provides comprehensive spiritual, emotional and pastoral care for all faiths and traditions serving both patients, their loved ones, and staff. This role embodies the institution's commitment to service excellence, patient and family centered culture, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides and/or arranges for effective and appropriate chaplaincy services, spiritual guidance and support to meet the needs of patients and their loved ones.
  • Regularly assess opportunities for enhancing the role of Spiritual Care within the hospital
  • Attends family meetings as appropriate in coordination with care team
  • Participates in ongoing education to enhance skills and stay up to date with developments in spiritual care as it relates to healthcare
  • Develops a spiritual care calendar of events and disseminates as appropriate
  • Represents Chaplaincy Services on hospital committees as needed
  • Collaborates/initiates in-service programs for staff to support staff in delivering culturally competent care to patients
  • Collaborate with other departments for support surrounding ethic consultations, hospice, palliative care and end of life discussions
  • Responsible for spiritual care program tracking and metrics
  • Maintains the interfaith chapel, including ordering of spiritual materials/education
  • Recruitment and oversight of theology, spiritual care and other students, interns, and volunteers
  • Coordination of Eucharistic Ministry program
  • Responsible for training and onboarding for new spiritual care team members as needed

  • Bachelor's degree required in related field
  • Master's degree from an accredited theological school required
  • Certification from APC/ NACC / NAJC / CPSP or eligible for certification
  • Ecclesiastical Endorsement (if relevant)
  • Relevant experience in healthcare required
  • Previous ministry experience in a hospital setting and/or at least four (4) units CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education)
  • Ability to represent Chaplaincy as a professional
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with multicultural individuals in crisis
  • Knowledge and understanding of multi faith traditions and customs
  • Ability to continuously respect and value diversity
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization (senior management and physician leadership to front-line staff)
  • Ability to function independently and effectively in a changing environment, develop timelines and meet deadlines, prioritize multiple projects, and manage time effectively
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other file sharing platforms.
  • Adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards
  • Has working knowledge of relevant hospital statutes and regulatory requirements
