This Health IT Software Engineer position is within MITRE's Open Health Services department (OHS). In OHS, we prioritize rapid prototyping and piloting of user-focused software, leaning forward with patient-centered innovations, following agile development practices, and sharing our work through open source. We work in multi-disciplinary teams collaborating with providers, health policy specialists, health care finance and reimbursement analysts, and public health experts. We work on a wide variety of projects, with many opportunities to explore different avenues and conduct research and development. You will be helping to implement, pilot, and deploy prototype health information systems using the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard with the goal of demonstrating the "art of the possible" to government agencies, health systems, industry, and individuals. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing open-source Health IT software
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Developing and implementing Health IT standards
  • Analyzing health and healthcare data

Basic Qualifications:

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have experience developing software applications using agile development and open source development tools;
  • Have experience in one or more core programming languages and related frameworks; experience with or interest in a commonly used development language (Java or C) and a data science language (R or Python)
  • Have experience in Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) or strong interest in learning FHIR
  • Have a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Sciences, or related field; or have equivalent real-world experience
  • Clearance level: Uncleared

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Educational background in statistics or data science would be ideal
  • Experience with Jira and Docker or React, GitHub, and Shell Scripting would be ideal
  • Go, JavaScript, Python, and/or PostgresSQL would be ideal
  • Suitability for HHS would be preferred
