Job Description:
REQUIRED: earned doctorate in learning sciences, instructional
design, curriculum and instruction, assessment design, education,
cognitive psychology, or related area; expertise in assessment
design, e.g., designing and executing playful assessments for
open-ended projects; expertise in mixed methods with a focus on
design-based research; experience working closely with teachers on
design and development of formative and summative assessment;
interest in advancing excellence and equity in education through
improving classroom learning; excellent communication and technical
skills; ability to work independently and contribute to an
interdisciplinary team. Seek someone who is comfortable navigating
ambiguity and enjoys challenges wrestling with fuzzy and big
problems in education. PREFERRED: five years' assessment design
experience, knowledge of and experience with project-based learning
at the HS level and HS math education; experience as an educator in
formal/informal education with middle/high school youth; experience
with data visualizations and analytics; and ability to work on an

LEARNING SCIENTIST AND ASSESSMENT DESIGNER, Comparative Media
Studies/Writing-MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program (MIT-STEP),
to join an interdisciplinary team designing, implementing, and
researching learning experiences, valuing student voice and choice
and teacher agency. Will join a team designing cutting-edge,
playful, authentic to the learning experience, assessments for high
school (HS) project-based learning math curricula. Responsibilities
include designing and testing assessments for project-based
learning math units; working with a design collaborative to create
summative and formative assessments; building capacity for
assessment design in the lab and beyond; coordinating with partner
schools/institutions; adapting and creating research instruments;
leading and supporting studies using mixed methodology for
design-based research; and publishing findings for scholarly and
practitioner communities.
