Khmer Language Experts NeededThe Language Access Services Section of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) is seeking Khmer language subject matter experts to be trained to work remotely on court interpreter-related tasks. The tasks are not interpreting assignments.The ideal Khmer language subject matter expert will have the following credentials and abilities:Native speaker of Khmer;Graduate degree in linguistics with a specialization in Khmer linguistics, the literature of the language or a related field; or a bilingual professional who is a native speaker of the language and who is able to demonstrate the level of proficiency in the language required to complete the work; or credentialed as a Khmer court interpreter or having an equivalent credential in some other field of interpretation; andAdvanced proficiency in written and spoken English.Additionally, the following areas of experience and expertise are highly desirable:Some applied, professional use of Khmer, e.g., court interpretation, interpretation in other domains, translation, scholarly linguistic research, publication of bilingual or monolingual dictionaries;Knowledge of court interpretation, court administration, state judicial systems or law in the U.S.; andExpertise in testing, especially with respect to language proficiency, interpretation, or translation.The successful candidate also needs to be well organized, handle paperwork efficiently, work effectively and collaboratively in a team context, and perform tasks in a timely manner within established timeframes and deadlines.DESCRIPTION OF WORKSelected subject matter experts will be trained to perform court interpreter related tasks in a remote environment. The work will also be performed remotely via teleconference, with the assistance of secure, password-protected websites for the transmission of files. TRAINING REQUIREMENTSSelected subject matter experts will be required to attend a four-day, live virtual online training event (via Zoom) conducted by the NCSC. The virtual training consists of a three-hour training session to be conducted at the same time each day, over four consecutive days, for a total of 12 hours of training.The four-day live virtual online training event is expected to be scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2022, through Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 12:00 pm ET-3:00 pm ET each day. Applicants who respond to this recruitment are required to be available to attend all 12 hours of this live virtual online training program.COMPENSATIONSelected subject matter experts must be legally eligible to work in the United States and will need to complete the pertinent paperwork before being eligible to participate in the training program.
