Job Description - Research Scientist (3236170) Research Scientist - ( 3236170 ) DESCRIPTION: The Emergency Medicine Network (EMNet) seeks an enthusiastic individual to join our Social Emergency Medicine research team, which investigates new strategies for developing interventions to reduce disparities in emergency care and -improve the quality of care provided to structurally vulnerable families. - The position is with a multidisciplinary team from Massachusetts General Hospital and EMNet, a consortium of emergency departments which focuses on public health research. The Research Scientist candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong methodological background, including expertise in qualitative and mixed methods and implementation science. Experience in quantitative methods and management of large clinical trials is also desirable. There are multiple possibilities for interaction with other researchers in Boston, as well as collaboration with many national and international research groups and institutions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee a large clinical trial of social needs navigational strategies
  • Conduct qualitative and mixed methods analyses on multiple topics, including pediatric care and social determinants of health screening
  • Develop analysis plans and protocols for studies consistent with federal guidelines
  • Coordinate design of specific studies
  • Provide input on major studies undertaken by the research team
  • Perform literature reviews and synthesize relevant data for these projects
  • Lead abstract and manuscript preparation, as well as presentation of study results at seminars, working group meetings, and lectures -for several projects
  • Attend national and international scientific meetings
  • Assist with preparation of grant applications and related documents
  • Provide guidance to Research Assistants, particularly regarding operational issues
  • Assist in the training of new employees
  • Other duties as assigned Depending on experience and interest, there may also be opportunities to lead US and international projects to complete the aims of numerous NIH grants. QUALIFICATIONS:
    • PhD or ScD in Health Policy, Health Services Research, or related area
    • Minimum of 5 years of research experience (inclusive of graduate studies) required; 7+ years preferred
    • Capacity to organize complex projects and diverse staff members and outstanding judgment with regards to study design and protocols
    • Superior writing, presentation, and organizational skills for manuscript and abstract preparations, as well as completion of grants in a timely fashion
    • Facility with qualitative analysis software (NVivo or Dedoose preferred)
    • Familiarity with quantitative analysis software (Stata preferred)
    • Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet applications) and the ability to learn new computer applications
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
    • Intellectual independence and initiative
    • Ability to oversee research assistants and others on the team in collaborative projects
    • Experience in public health and health policy, preferably health equity
    • Ability to work within NIH and other federal and foundation regulations and guidelines This description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by an employee within this position. The actual duties, responsibilities and qualifications may vary based on need. Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing the work conducted by fellows, graduate students, post-docs, and other researchers on assigned projects within the team as needed. Duties -will be carried out in a typical hybrid office environment; most days will be on-site in the office, with some remote work considered as appropriate. - Occasional - evening or weekend work may be required. -
