MA Salary Range: Undisclosed Head of SchoolPosition Overview The
Head of School is responsible for the overall quality and
operations of Italian Home for Children's Pallotta Educational
Center, a K-8 therapeutic day school for children with special
education needs who are enrolled as day or residential education
students. This position directly oversees the Director of
Education, the Director of Clinical Programming, and the
Administrative Assistant. The Head of School indirectly oversees
30-45 children and 30+ full time equivalent employees. The Head of
School is a key role in the execution of the Pallotta Education
Center's strategic expansion. The Head of School forecasts and is
accountable to financial performance, monitors standards of special
education, and develops key partnerships. In collaboration with
direct reports, this position envisions and executes the clinical
and educational direction of the programs as well as promotes and
ensures IHC treatment philosophies are implemented, ensuring IHC's
strong reputation as demonstrating high standards for quality of
care. The Head of School will focus on the following areas: program
leadership and management, setting high performance expectations
and holding staff accountable, creating a balanced therapeutic and
educational environment, staff retention, and growing the size of
the school. Internally, s/he will provide inspiration, instill
loyalty, pride, and passion for working at IHC, and recognize hard
work and creativity. Externally, the Head of School is the "face"
of the school and plays a key role in raising visibility,
awareness, and influence about IHC through the cultivation of
strategic relationships and taking opportunities to communicate
both the school and the overall organization's mission. The Head of
School supports the Development Department by meeting with donors,
engaging volunteers, hosting corporate engagement projects,
attending important fundraising events, and partnering on grant
submissions. The intent of this job description is to provide a
representative summary of the duties and responsibilities that will
be required of the position, but additional responsibilities may be
required. Employees are expected to perform job related tasks other
than those specifically presented in this description. ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES Educational Leadership
- Research and analyze the vision and future impact of the Mary
Savioli Pallotta Educational Center including expansion into new
locations, ages, or clinical specialties
- Develop quality improvement goals, engage staff in attaining
the goals, and track outcomes for the day school
- Oversee compliance of individual student/client records,
detailing services and performance; ensure Directors complete
periodic record reviews
- Modernize school policies and procedures
- Oversee that all IEP's remain current and relevant and are
thoroughly prepared for all Quarterly Conferences, Progress
Reviews, and Medication Reviews
- Execute comprehensive marketing plan for recruitment of
students
- Lead the intake process for all referred students and arrange
with the designated Out of District Coordinator any necessary
payment and service agreements
- Provide strategic leadership in developing and implementing
annual goals and objectives around financial performance
- Remain current with knowledge of best practices, relevant
research, policies, regulations, and other trends affecting Italian
Home for Children educational programs
- Problem-solve around complex clinical scenarios and/or risk
issues/patterns; work with LEAs when a student is no longer an
appropriate fit for the school
- Collaborate with other agency leadership around treatment
philosophy and IHC reputation
- Initiate robust outcome tracking for all day programs; assume
primary responsibility for ensuring that program effectiveness is
monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis
- Engage in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training and
ensure the safety of the children Personnel Leadership & Management
- Develop, coach, and retain high-performing staff
- Regular Performance Evaluation of direct reports and support to
supervisees to ensure performance evaluations are completed for all
staff
- Continuously assess efficacy of management infrastructure
- Schedule and implement individual supervision and in-service
training; ensure all supervisory staff are providing supervision
and performance management to their reports within guidelines of
agency supervision model
- Appropriately and professionally respond to client/family
complaints and state agency concerns
- Through example and leadership, establish a culture of mutual
support and respect, personal responsibility, empowerment, and
continued skill development
- Receive and appropriately respond to staff feedback
- Further integrate the various specialties and disciplines of
occupational therapy, nursing, psychiatry, speech and language,
music, art, clinicians, and milieu staff Strategic Internal and
External Partnerships
- Evaluate market competitors to discover and promote IHC's
innovative differentiators
- Cultivate and manage relationships with DESE and potential LEA
referral sources through regular in person marketing visits and
constantly strive to learn how IHC's school can differentiate
itself from similar programs
- Research and network with other schools both in and out of
state to redesign and restructure programs to stay relevant
- Serve as primary liaison to Development Department scheduling
and engaging volunteers, cultivating donors, attending board
meetings, and hosting events, to include some evening hours
- Represent Italian Home for Children at conferences within the
nonprofit, philanthropic, mental health, and policy communities and
at other relevant meetings and events
- Act as a liaison to other departments including residential
program staff, nursing, prescribers, Talent, and Finance including
sharing resources and staff and integrating specialties
- Participate in strategic planning
- Ensure that all marketing materials, including web-based
information, are current and relevant, in collaboration with the
Department of Agency Advancement ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field, License
as a Special Educator, and a minimum of one year of administrative
experience are all required
- License as Administrator of Special Education strongly
preferred
- License as Principal with ability to obtain Special Education
Administrator license within one year of hire will be
considered
- Three or more years as principal/senior leader strongly
preferred
- Background working with children with trauma and/or behavioral
health histories strongly preferred
- Experience working effectively with children and families in
diverse communities
- Mission-driven and self-directed individual with passion for
agency's mission
- Flexible and adaptable with broad responsibilities and shifting
priorities
- Strong motivator of staff to be flexible and tolerant of change
environment and growth of programs
- Proven ability to establish and steward external
relationships
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Physical ability to provide therapeutic physical restraint
- Excellent time management, teamwork, and problem-solving
skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strictest confidentiality with
respect to agency, employee and client information; adhere to all
HIPPA guidelines and regulations
