DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps
DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps members build relationships with young people
and support them in developing skills, connection, and confidence
in their learning. They create opportunities for young people to
set goals, drive their own solutions, make decisions, fail, learn
and grow. In short, they meet young people where they're at and
support them to get where they want to go. For 10 months, DIAL/SELF
members gain practical experience and build leadership skills that
transfer across careers and vocations, particularly those related
to education, youth work, nonprofits, social work, and community
work. The three elements of DIAL/SELF's AmeriCorps program are:
+On-site youth work. +Team service project with fellow members.
+Weekly training for professional and personal development.
Participants in the DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps program earn a
Compensation Package of up to $24,695 (The package includes a
stipend of up to $17,800 and an Education Award of up to $6,895).
Members are provided with health care and child care if needed, and
they're often eligible for other food and heat assistance, as well.
Additionally, the service schedule accommodates personal and sick
days. Ultimately, members often find the greatest benefits of the
program come through gaining practical skills, making connections
that lead to future opportunities, and collaborating with fellow
members and the community. DIAL/SELF encourages people of all
backgrounds and social identities to apply! DIAL/SELF makes
reasonable accommodations for service and interviews. Currently, we
are accepting applications for the 2023-2024 AmeriCorps term that
starts August 24, 2023. The application deadline is 06/01/2023.

Member Duties : DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Members serve in a school or
at a local nonprofit. They develop relationships with young people
and support them in building skills, connection, and confidence in
themselves as learners. Members are trained to use the
conversational skills of "motivational interviewing" to help young
people set learning goals and activate the resources they can use
to achieve them. Additionally, members come together for weekly
trainings and team service project activities. The team service
project is a member-led collaboration between members and their
communities. Weekly workshops cover topics such as: youth work best
practices, multiple intelligences, restorative practices, equity
and inclusion, trauma-informed care, civic engagement, asset-based
community development, and conflict resolution. AmeriCorps Members
are prohibited from serving hours for: general fundraising,
assisting religious orgs, promoting political views, union
activity, or supporting abortion services.
