Job Description:
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute is currently seeking a
highly motivated individual to join our organization as Senior
Business Systems Analyst. The Senior Business Systems Analyst will
work with the Therapeutics Research and Infectious Disease
Epidemiology (TIDE) group, which sits within Harvard Medical
School's Department of Population Medicine
(www.populationmedicine.org) and leads several large, complex,
national, multi-site research initiatives. The role will primarily
support the Sentinel Program, which is an FDA-funded medical
product surveillance system, that uses existing administrative and
electronic health care data from multiple collaborating
institutions around the country (www.Sentinelsystem.org).The Senior
Business Systems Analyst is responsible for a variety of
operations-focused activities, including but not limited to
technical requirements preparation for new tools, drafting of
specifications, training team members, and cross-team outreach.
This position requires high-level communication skills for close
collaboration with developers, investigators, project managers and
other analysts, both within Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute
(HPHCI) and with external institutions and collaborators. It will
also require working with stakeholders to come up with
solutions-oriented and innovative ideas to support and expand
analytic tools.Job Description
- Lead discussions with a wide range of internal stakeholders,
including investigators, programmers, and analysts to understand
and translate user requirements into programming needs in order to
develop new analytic tools or enhancements.
- Support and manage the development of documentation, including
functional and technical programming specifications, analytic
plans, testing materials, and training materials.
- Provide impact analysis of proposed system changes/enhancements
to business customers. Summarize and present issues to a variety of
audiences: technical, non-technical, and executive
stakeholders.
- Support implementation of standardization of protocols for
operations and provide guidance on best practices.
- Participate in projects as assigned, create and support user
stories, attend stand-ups and other project meetings, and
participate in software development activities in an agile
environment.
- Perform out-of-the-box thinking, collaborate with others, and
make a difference every day!

- A Bachelor's degree in health science, business, IT or related
field or equivalent experience is required, along with a minimum of
5 years of professional experience working with and supporting
business applications.
- Project management experience including Waterfall and Agile.
Knowledge of SAS and healthcare data is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and
problem-solving skills. Ability to determine business needs and
translate them into technical solutions.
- Experience with epidemiological study designs and statistical
methods that address bias and confounding in observational data
(e.g., self-controlled designs, propensity score methods) a
plus.
